Safest Cars for 2022

10/01/2022

If you are in the market for a new car, there are a lot of things on your mind. Besides cost and value, there is also style, reliability, and size to consider. But, above all, the most important thing should really always be safe when it comes to buying a new car. There are a lot of consumer websites and agencies out there to think about. There are many different kinds of safety ratings out there.

So let’s take a look at some ways to track down the safest car for you. In the Los Angeles area, we don’t have to worry about snowstorms, but there is rain to think about. And, if you are like lots of people, you do venture out of the desert sometimes. So, having a car that performs in snow or mud may be the best thing for you, wherever you live.

NHTS

This is a branch of the US department of transportation. It is known as NHTS, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Every year, they select new models to perform testing on. From there they can release their findings as part of their 5-Star Safety Ratings program. They cover about 86% of the new vehicles coming out and submit them to rigorous tests and protocols. They do this so that any consumers looking to start the year with a new car will have valuable information about safety right at their fingertips. You see, the rating goes on the car’s window sticker while it is being sold. This makes it hard to miss for anyone curious about safety. So, make sure to take a good look while you are at the dealership.

This year, the NHTS is excited to be including nine electric vehicles on its list of cars and trucks to be tested. They are striving to ensure that safety standards keep up with new technologies, all for the good of the consumer.

IIHS

This group is known as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. They are an independent organization dedicated to cutting down on death, injury, and property damage that results from motor vehicle crashes. They advocate for research and evaluation and for effecting change by educating consumers, policymakers, and safety professionals.

They have already released their findings for this year’s new cars. It can be found on their website. Some of the top choices include the 2022 4-door Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla 4-door sedan and hatchback, as well as the Tesla Model Y, which took home the top safety pick of the year.

As you can see, there is a lot of good work being done to help you make your choice. Just be sure to do the research. This is something that you won’t get a second chance at. As soon as you drive the car off the lot, you lose value. So, you don’t want to find out about a safety issue when it is too late. You will be glad you did, and the peace of mind will be worth the time it took you to find your perfect new car.
